I'm convinced that Collie said what he did just to rub it in. Anybody who watched that game should know that there was a LOT of talk going on down there, and I'm guessing that his comments had more to do with what was being said than anything else.

If he did he has risen a couple of levels in my admiration for the kid. It has provided some awesome entertainment and a target rich environment.

After the game, during an interview I did with him, Collie said good things happen if players live correctly off the field. To many, the sophomore receiver played the religion card.

To those who take offense, be offended. But to the Cougars, it’s all part of Mendenhall’s gospel.

In order to play well, you’ve got to be free from distractions. To keep a clear mind, you’ve got to live a clean life.

That’s what Collie was saying when he brought God into the conversation I had with him. His point is well taken, however off-the-wall it sounded.

Reasonable people would have instantly interpreted it that way. However, the past 72 hours has been priceless so I vote we keep the current interpretations.

Remember how Utenation thought the sign held up at College Gameday in 2004 that said "Hey BYU, where is YOUR god now?" was so nipplehardening and laid that smackdown to zoobies worldwide? I just think Elder Collie was answering the question, albeit a year or three late.
