Hard to get your hopes up with 18 yo kids that change their mind every couple days.

Looks like the same dynamic might be going on here that was going with the big DL that went to Oregon (can't remember name). BYU has positioned itself to be the school to attend if he wants to put church and mission first. The BCS school has positioned itself as the football school. Might be nice if we told him: you can go on a mission if you want but that's up to you, we're in the business of developing football players and putting them in the NFL.

Probably the best player at BYU in a decade, if he had come.

This will be exciting. I think he ends up a Cougar.

I hope so.

USC doesn't need him but we do. USC will just plug in another four or five star in his place. He's a fungible commodity at USC but he's a godsend at BYU.

Ok, we have a kid with serious reality issues, which is not a good harbinger for BYU.

Chambers has yet to qualify academically and Kaveinga is tripping to USC where they just may offer him a salary he can't refuse.

Is it possible BYU loses both of their prized recruits? At this point, it seems very much possible.

It's not a reality issue, it's a truth issue. And I'm not judging because I do believe it's a tough issue, and it's a bit of a cultural issue. White lies are less of a sin than confrontation.

We should qualify Chambers as he's NCAA qualified, but Kaveinga doesn't sound positive.

You hit that on the head; obviously you've dealt with Polynesians. With Faka Tonga (The Tongan Way) it's more appropiate to tell a white lie to avoid the confrontation and save face, then it is to tell the truth and offend or be considered rude. Samoans are quite similar in this approach as well.

FWIW, his father favors USC, and that carries a lot of weight with the poly kids. I'm interested to see where he ends up; if at SC it's probably to appease his parents, at BYU, I'd say he's following his own heart.

I can certainly understand why his Dad would want him at SC.

I can hear them over on TBS now. "How will his Dad feel when his kid doesn't go on a mission and end up like Havili."
