Boise State in a weird situation
http://voices.idahostatesman.com/201..._east_meetings
Their football team is (probably) joining the Big (L)East, and their other sports are....ummm....going....somewhere else. Is the Big East so good, that you send your other teams to Siberia? Yes, I heard you say it. What other teams? Good point. |

I gives me no pleasure to say we are probably is just as awkward a position as Boise State at this point, and with less to show for it on the field.

The difference between us and Notre Dame as independents, in part, is that Notre Dame actually has rivalries to play for and look forward to.
All BYU has is Utah and that's it. And that might be going away. No rivalries, no conference championship, games in non-HD broadcast (on the satellites directv and dish) on BYUtv. Recruiting quality down, not putting guys into the draft. We need to pray for a Big 12 invite. Or perhaps the whole operation is doomed. |

We are in trouble until we can land somewhere that develops rivalries, improves the recruiting and development and means something by the end of the season.
We don't have any meaningful rivalries right now. ND has Michigan, Michigan State, and USC on a regular basis. It also plays the academies, Purdue, Penn State and Boston College, with Stanford often coming in. Right there, the games matter, the recruits are still coming in, players still get drafted and whenever ND wins a lot of games it still goes to a meaningful bowl game.

the weird times/days are going to become an issue again.
Thursday and Friday night games. For BYU it's always going to be a tradeoff between exposure and good start times. |

My perception is that attrition is not being balanced against new fans. We old guys had a passion and put our money where our hearts were. The lack of success is not attracting those fans being left behind.
