Default American History X

Been meaning to watch this for a while. Was prompted again recently with the Edward Norton discussion on which movie he was best in.

Excellent film.

I love the hard R brutal and raw and violent but smart and character driven movie.

Fargo, Fight Club, Pulp Fiction. This belongs just beneath that group.

The prison rape scene was terribly disturbing.

Yes but I think the curb stomping was even moreso.

Here's a good poll idea. Which rape scene was most disturbing American History X, Pulp Fiction, or Deliverance. Deliverance was the worst.

I think the honor goes to American Me for that.

here is an interesting tidbit about the director trying to torpedo his own film, courtesy wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Kaye_(director)

a book titled "them" by jon ronson has a whole chapter that deals with the weirdness of the situation. the book is an easy read and damn entertaining in its own right. it's about a british humorist who goes around and visits with extremist people, kkk, militant muslims, ian paisley etc.

but back to the film, i'm with you, it was well done. it has a mighty important message underneath all that violence.

Hispanic high school kid that was raped by some dudes in racially-motivated crime, 2 years after the incident climbed to the top of a tower on a cruise and jumped. He was 18. From Houston.

I agree with this. That scene caused me to wince, which is something I don't usually do.

This is an excellent movie that coincidentally I watched again yesterday. I agree the curb stomping scene is brutal and hard to watch.

Curb-stomping is no big deal. I do it in Gears of War all the time.
