I've been doing a little brain candy reading on my break. I haven't read that book for a long time.

If you were raised in the cold war era, his fascination with a nuclear disaster and 80's society is too much fun to read.

but I will say that during the 80s, I would have happily welcomed a nuclear disaster if it would have rid the world of those awful hair bands, especially Def Leppard.
