Big 12 expansion talk
I haven't been paying much attention to sports the past two weeks.
Was listening to Dallas sports radio today and there is a lot of talk about Big 12 expansion. OU president says let's expand, but is there anyone else that wants to? ESPN Dallas guy Matt Moseley says that OU is definitely in the minority according to his sources. BYU came up as one of the possibilities, but both guys were very lukewarm towards BYU. And all the other schools as well. This is our last chance to get on the last copter out of Hanoi. |

Per some ESPN guy, BYU rubbed them the wrong way during the 2012 negotiations.

We hold all the cards. We are God's football team and God's university after all.

it's an echo chamber. They think they have to keep saying certain things because it's what they've heard. Regardless of what happened in 2012, Holmoe and Mendenhall have since said different things about being in the Big 12 or in a P5 league. The Sunday play issue will remain, but it's interesting that some of the rumors are that BYU would be added in football only, which makes that issue moot. It would be better if it were all sports, but at least that would be better than the present situation. Who knows what the B12 will do, but the irrelevant schools who would have nowhere to go if the whole thing collapses one day might see expansion as a way to increase their security. BYU's current TV contract with ESPN actually serves as an advantage. Anyone else being considered must leave their current TV money in whatever league they're coming from.
