Default Teaching the Temple Prep class

I'll be starting in a couple of weeks. Any tips, thoughts or resources to share?

The people in the class are mostly married adults who have been coming to church regularly. I don't know any of them very well.

I'll be sure to tell the class that if they stumble upon a bed in the temple, under no circumstances should they use it to abuse teenage girls.

Seriously, what would be helpful to people? I'm not looking to be out on the edge or anything, but the manual seems pretty vanilla.

The manual is pretty vanilla. Stick with the manual and don't go out on the edge.

Focus each lesson on answering the question, "How does this topic help us to come unto Christ?" This is the "so what?" question that should be the focus of each lesson in temple prep, because that is the focus of the temple, the process of comming unto Christ. By doing this you will not get away into topics that are inappropriate and will keep the Spirit strong in the class. Make sure you help them recognize what they are feeling, and let the Spirit teach them individually, thus helping them come unto Christ.

Just my 2 bits.

You can't teach people what you don't know. Of course, Jesus is at the center of the temple, but if people knew even a little about the modes of instruction they'd be well on their way to a deeper understanding of both Jesus and the temple experience:

I like Zulu's suggestion a lot. I would add that I would spend some time talking about symbols and symbology. Because of our quasi-aversion to the cross and other trappings of the Catholic church we are for the most part illiterate as to these things. We are then confronted with the endowment where we are told, right out of the gate, that what we are about to see is something "represented."

I would use the example of he sacrament not literally being about bread and water and then encourage people as they go through to think about what the things they are seeing stand for. What lesson are they meant to impart to us.
