afternoon church meeting times
My ward has been at the 9am slot for quite a while. We are now looking at having to move to a 2pm slot.
My experience at BYU in a 3pm slot was that almost no one attended EQ in the 3rd hour. I remember at times having only 4 or 5 guys in EQ meeting. Is that an unusual thing, or should I indeed expect significant attendance dropoff in the 3rd hour (i.e. 4pm to 5pm)? |

I don't believe you should see that much of a dropoff but who knows with Texans.

I have memories of a late-meeting BYU ward. Having 4 guys in EQ. And walking out of church to darkness. Yes, the time played a role.

Although there may be some drop-off, I doubt it would be the same as in a BYU ward. for the most part, people who are willing to come at 2 pm are probably willing to stay till 5 pm. This is a family ward where people want their kids to stay in primary, if only for the free babysitting it provides. And they are more likely to have other responsibilities at church. I've had 2:30 or 3 church in a couple of different wards (though never at BYU), and I've never noticed that people don't attend as well.
In my building, 4 wards share it for services on Sunday. (8:30, 10:30, 12:30, and 2:30). The past few years they have kept the temple worker service missionary ward at the 2:30. I think they attend the whole thing, but I"m not sure. They complain about it cutting in on their Sunday afternoon socializing, though. No one likes those late times. |

2pm meeting time was announced in my ward, and there was a collective gasp of horror. The counselor in the Bishopric could have announced "I am having an affair" and the reaction would have been the same. It was kinda funny.

the last time i had 2pm church was in the meandering way chapel (dallas 4th ward). memorable because it was my first cowboys season where i was dedicated to the team.
Glen Titensor was in our ward and was rarely at church for the same reason. Though I was only nine, I remember arguing to Pres Gibbons that we should be allowed to move back to the 9am slot during football season so as to allow Bro. Titensor to at least attend one hour. I was not persuasive. I resorted to faking all manner of illnesses between the months of September and December |
