anomolous monism
thoughts?
http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/anomalous-monism/ Smart guys, SIEQ, Seattle, Pelagius, Solon, AA, Dan and Creekster and Utah Dan and anybody else I might have forgotten. Strange, at least a little bit don't you think?

It's taking a while for me to wrap my head around it, but from amongst you, SIEQ, Pelagius, Chapel and AA, somebody will be able to explain it to me.

In some way, the arguments feel like some redefinition of Plato's Forms and Descartes' discussion of causality. I know that's not what's going on, but it looks and feels as if we're returning to the ancient debates between Plato and Aristotle.

Takes an engineer to make the only intelligent comment.

It has been very nice to have basked in the light (false though it be) of the smart guys list. Honesty, and not modesty, compels me to admit that I have no idea what this guy is talking about. I looked at it for a while last night, started to give myself a headache, and then decided to just play the uke a little and go to bed.

The more I think of it, it bears some relationship to some of the discussions espoused by Joseph Smith, even though he didn't speak in those terms.
Remember discussions of "tiny intelligence theory", which Skousen loved to espouse? Basically, no matter is "other" or "immaterial". Look at the section on Bare Materialism and see if that doesn't resemble some of those debates.

I'll have to read this. Some of my usual thinkers are concerned with Monism. It's the stone rejected by the builders...
