Default What is the classification of a "serious cyclist"?

I mean, just how much serious riding does one have to do before he breaches that boundary and becomes a "serious rider".

I would say around 40 to 50 miles a week. Some of the other things I would look for, an old jersey from a club team or a Euro team knock off, not afraid to wear lycra in public, shaved legs with some muscle definition, flat belly and a very optimic attitude about life.

Thats unfortunate, because I don't fit a single one of those criteria.

Any other definitions to choose from?

If you love to ride works also.

Hmmm..interesting. You dropped me at "some muscle definition, flat belly!"

Hey, what in the wide world of sports is that fellow doing in your avatar pic? Mooning the crowd...on his bike?

I love the skier in the Wide World of Sports intro that wipes out for the "agony of defeat" line. Wouldn't that be the worst way to be immortalized?

Sorry. random thought.

I think it's a picture of Archaea as he is riding away from the peloton.

Amazing thing is; He escaped the whole incident with only a slight concussion and ended up jumping later that day.

I saw a documentary on him once. Or on something else and they included him. I found this note online:
Bogataj lived behind the Iron Curtain. As a result, he had no idea how infamous his crash had become in the United States. So it was with great confusion that he accepted an invitation to attend ABC's "Wide World of Sports" anniversary show. Once there, he found himself hounded by fans (including Muhammad Ali) who wanted to shake hands with "the agony of defeat."
You can actually watch the clip of the anniversary show on YouTube and you can see the confusion on his face. It's kind of sad. (You can also see the "agony of defeat" clip on youtube.)

Yep...I grew up with that bit on ABC sports. It's burned in my memory...when you heard (Jim McKay?) and that music...it was time to sit back and watch.
