People complain about the thousand year time span but that's the point. We should look at history over the long haul. If you do, it's staggering how unique, unlikely and fragile is what we have in our country. It took Rome 300 or so years to become authoritarian. AA could give a more precise estimate.

It's not "panache." It's a schooner.

Do your attempts to suck up ever work with the wife?

The traditional year given for the founding of Rome is 753 BC. It was ruled by kings until 509 BC, when the kings were overthrown, and lasted as a Republic until the Caesars took over. Pick a date that you think is most significant: Julius Caesar made Dictator Perpetuus in 44 BC, Octavian defeats Marc Antony at the Battle of Actium in 31 BC, he is named Augustus and accepts the title "Princeps inter Pares" in 27 BC. It was definitely gone by the time Tiberius succeeded Augustus in 14 AD. That gives Rome 400 to 450 years as a Republic.

I agree with posters stating, "How the hell should I know?"

I can't see two years out, let alone 1000 miles, I mean years. You caught me thinking about Lotoja training.

Is the question, will there be an intermittent period when the land which we now inhabit becomes authoritarian for a time or for all time thereafter?

Could we forsee a period where it is invoked temporarily, given the historical oddity which is a Republic?

I answered no.

Why?

Because in all honesty, I won't be around. I don't care about anything that happens after I'm dead.
