So I watched "Babel"
Eh....not impressed.
Weaving the stories together didn't happen as cleverly as the filmaker was wanting it to be. I wasn't a huge fan of Crash, and Crash is better than this movie. They both use the same kind of multi-tiered story technique and interweaving them together. I'm going to give Crash another look see. Babel was mostly really slow and boring.

Based on your not liking Babel I probably should check it out.

I was thinking the same thing. Same for Rocky's post on CB about Prestige and Illusionist. I liked Illusionist, as well as nearly every other movie Rocky doesn't like--especially if he says it's boring.
So now, Prestige and Babel are high on my must watch list. |

Babel sucked. I posted my review some time ago when I caught in the theatres. How it's receiving the hype it has when it's a regurgitation of last year's Crash is beyond me. It doesn't focus on the limitations of language as much as the trailer and names suggests which I would have thought would have been much more interesting. The closest you come to that is a deaf Japanese girl struggling with her peers to fit in. You do get to see her in all her birthday suit glory. I wouldn't suggest this movie to anyone.

The acting in Babel was top notch. No doubt about that.
It just wasn't my taste of film. I'm trying to watch the films nominated for Best Picture before the Oscars on Sunday. So far I've seen: The Departed and Babel. I rented Little Miss Sunshine today and am gonna try to see Letters from Iwo Jima tomorrow. I've no desire at all to see The Queen.

I agree that the Prestige was quite good. I thought it was much better than its natural rival, the Illusionist, although Hugh Jackman is not the strongest actor.

I really enjoyed the Illusionist. Ed Norton is a great actor.

You should check out The Last King of Scotland. It's not nominated for Best Picture, but Forest Whitaker is up for Best Actor, and the movie is one of the best I've seen this year.

To me, Forrest Whitaker will always be Charles Jefferson.
