I thought Hair Thompson announced a year ago it would be in HD, but I don't recall that he provided any details.

I remember something similar, but can't recall any details.

From purely a marketing standpoint, now that it's televised nationally, it would be a good next-step. Maybe it's step 2, after getting onto Dish.
