I think the ones I listed are the bedrock except maybe adding Dred Scott and N.Y. Times v. Sullivan. But for the First Amendment I prefer the drama and clarifying effect of National Socialist Party of America v. Village of Skokie, 432 U.S. 43 (1978). That's always been my favorite First Amendment/prior restraint case.

Considering how many times she's been smeared the past few weeks I'm surprised she couldn't name Sullivan.

Skokie was a good one. I would think for lawyers it is pretty easy to rip off the names of a few cases becasue even if you don't practice federal con law on a daily basis, there will always be a few case names that were seared into your brain in law school (you think I remember Pennoyer v. Neff from a happy place?).

Palin is no legal genius, that much seems clear. OTOH, I would not be shocked to find that many of our non-lawyer governors and legislators at the national level, if put on the spot would be simialrly unable to come up with some names.
