Otherwise the same.
Mike, you know this isn't true. They both support a host of craptastic policies (the bailout), but there's one area where their choices would be markedly different: judicial appointments. And these apointments matter more than most of their other decisions.

All this arguing about McCain's war hero status has worn me out. I give up!

Not true. The conservative establishment that has entrenched themselves over the past 20 years will not let another Souter happen; they doomed Harriet Miers' nomination, for crying out loud.

With Obama, you don't get a Souter: you get a Brennan or Marshall.

With McCain, you won't get a Scalia, but you'll get a centrist like O'Connor or Kennedy.

I can't believe you actually think their SCOTUS nominations would be the same.

McCain claims he will nominate a Roberts/Alito, both of whom Obama voted against.

was America really that much different during the Clinton years? Seriously. It wasn't. We have two centrist major parties that spend money like crazy. What they argue about is where to spend it.

at least we were in the black when a Democrat was president. Electing a Republican should not be confused with electing someone who is fiscally conservative.

1. I don't believe that given his history in the senate. How quickly you forget the gang of 14 episdode.

2. With a democratically controlled senate he wouldn't be able to get that kind of justice confirmed anyway. The justices most likely needing to be replaced are all liberals, making it even less likely he'll be able to convice the senate to take another Roberts or Alito. Best case with McCain we get another Kennedy. And if Obama is president he replaces liberals with liberals, meaning no real change in direction for the court. This was an important issue last time, but not in 2008.
