1. Americans hate, or at least have had a belly full of W, and he is a Republican.
2. Obama is very articulate.
3. Obama is nice looking.
4. Obama is a powerful symbol.
5. McCain is a Republican who is neither articulate nor good looking.

I can't even, seriously, bring myself to list ideas here. Ideas are way down the list somewhere, but they have so little to do with. Yes there are some people like you who have really absorbed the ideas and the differences they represent but this is not the overwhelming majority of people. Yes there are many Republicans who despise him for his views but I don't even think that is most Republicans. I believe these things are decided on a much more superficial level. It is so rare that any particular idea really matters.
Ask your typical on-the-street Obama supporter to name a few of his positions. Ask him to name a few of his accomplishments while you're at it.

The same cannot be said of Palin. She has been sheltered by the McCain campaign for as long as she has been in the campaign. When pressed for details, she collapses into canned lines or wanders off topic and into a discussion on energy or how bad Obama is (again with remarkably little detail).

Even McCain right now has almost no message that can be articulated. What does he stand for? What is he hoping to accomplish? He supports a bailout one day, then opposes it. Then supports it, then takes credit for it, then bashes it as a waste of taxpayer money, then once again supports it, followed by more criticism of it. He hates regulation, then he supports it, then opposes it again. His only message of late is that Obama is a bad guy with bad friends. Good luck with that message.
Blah, blah, blah.

You admitted that you are attracted by Obama's charisma.

I'd say that Dan is spot on.

The only way Obama is different than any other politician is that he is farther to the left of anyone who had a serious chance at being elected POTUS.

You may be one of the few who actually agree with his radical policies, which is more frightening than being attracted to the whistles and bells. You don't have ignorance as an excuse.

even more left than LBJ? Heck, it was the republican Nixon who instituted wage and price controls in the 70s. I don't think as a country we are nearly as liberal/socialist as we were in the 60s and 70s. Even Utah voted for extreme liberal LBJ.

Yes. Even more than LBJ.

I'm not aware of LBJ ever wanting to have universal health care, gutting the military and adding the equivalent of one trillion in extra spending.

But perhaps I'm wrong.

Odd.
Socialized medicine is liberal. You know it so drop the little surprised act.

Do you have a link that shows McCain saying he will spend more than Obama?

I remember reading about a study a few years ago that concluded that people almost always buy things based on their gut decisions. They concluded that most decisions are made at a pre-conscious or emotional level and then we spend a lot of time trying to support our decisions by research and shopping.

IOW, I don't think Dan is being cynical. I think most people make decisions on this basis. It is sort of like choosing which alpha male do we want leading our little pack or tribe. Because McCain and Obama aren't in a cage match we have to guesstimate which one is stronger and will mee t our needs the best. We pretend to do this through study, but most of us really use the rubric Dan puts forward.

And no matter what facts or figures you are presented with, you still can't recognize that there is nothing "socialist" about Obama's health care plan.

Somehow, the world "universal" has been replaced in your mind with "socialist."

People you hang out with must be confused when you tell them you saw a movie from Socialist Studios. Soon it will spread to replacing any word that starts with "univers" with socialist.

I am watching the Miss Socialist pageant!
My son got a degree from a good Socialist!
HeMan, Master of the Socialist!
The Obamaniac is accusing me of being a parrot?

That is funny.

And yes, it is socialized. You just can't come to grips with accepting that you're a socialist too.

Neither shows a report that McCain would be spending additional money, but report that in the opinions of some, revenue would go down.

Try again.
