So....

We all know my love of scouting....

We have done all the book work and done the bike repairs. Tonight starts the first of 7 rides. 10 (2), 15 (2), 25 (2), and 50 (1) miles.

Going to be fun.

I have some Deacons that are out of shape. I am fat, but they are out of shape.

Tick

I will report back later tonight. 10 miles here we come.

We did this a couple of years ago in our troop. Due to some scheduling conflicts, the order of our rides got a little mixed up. Our order went 15 miles, 50 miles, 10 miles, 10, 25, 25.

The kids were hurtin' for certain on that 50 miler, and the legs were the least of their problems. The butt and the hands were most sore for every one of them, as most showed up without gloves or padded shorts. Helmets and bikes were our only absolute requirements to attend.

I did the fifty miler with my son, the longest fifty miler I've ever done. And then I went back to the group to discover he usually designs a downhiller. Yikes. My son, who was eleven at the time was balling by the end, "Dad I can't feel my legs."

"Now you know the joys of cycling son."

"I hate you."

"I love you too."

My infamous accident that resulted in two titanium plates and ten screws being added to my right radius and ulna occured at mile 42 of my son's (and two friends') 50 miler. At mile 35 or so, we took a water and Gu break, and I instructed the boys that in the later parts of a long ride, one had a tendency to get a little careless, so it was important to watch their line, stay alert and finish strong. Seven miles later, disaster, due to a total brain freeze on my part. As I was being driven off to three hours of surgery, one of the boys said, "Wow, that was like the best lesson ever."

It is over....

We had 6 Deacons, 2 other leaders besides myself, a father and his daughter, and a leaders daughter.

Myself and 2 boys finished first (in the same group). 35 minutes for 10 miles. All flatland but still.

Next group of 4 came in at 40 minutes.

Last group came in at 57 minutes. (That one had the girls in it. Both 10 or under)

Nothing really hurts right now. My lungs were a little burned.

But for a Phat Ace at about 335 I faired well.

I hope to be down to around 305 when we hit the 50 miler.

I heard he was trying to show off riding a wheelie, and he ran into an old lady. PAC needs to stick to one story.
