Not sure how I missed this thread, but I'm glad to see that it hasn't affected my friends here that live in that area too much.

I've yet to experience anything stronger than a 4.something. Strong enough to be felt, but not enough movement to be cause for alarm.

I don't know if the church is doing this everywhere, but in one of my stakes in Texas, part of The Emergency Preparedness plan was for each ward to have a certain # of ham certified people who all were on teh same channels, etc. The idea being this would be a network of everyone across the stake.

They had classes to get certified and once a month they had an evening where they would all get on and chat.

Our stakes does this, as does the Newport Beach stake when we lived there. Sunday night was HAM chat. I wonder if it is really common across the country? It is a good idea.

I was just asked to get HAM certified and be an emergency coordinator for my neighborhood zone. The equipment cost isnt too bad and the classes are free.

After today, I am much more motivated to go to the classes.

Our stake was going to but i have no idea if they ever followed through or not.
