Default 2009 TDF thread

Today was an interesting stage. Lance, the cagey fox. Contador probably cursing him under his breath.

Hmmm, one of the riders says Contador actually caused the split.

Quote:
The post-race polemics continued on Monday, with Christophe Le Mevel (Française des Jeux) blaming Contador for the split. "When the split happened I was right on Contador's wheel," he said. "If it's true there were 29 guys in front he must have been 30th and I was 31st. It was him who caused the split. I saw the gap opening up just in front of us and we just couldn't close it. With a lot of leaders stuck, it was complete panic."

With Paul, Phil and those other guys returning, plus the Tour dynamics, this one should be watchable. Yeah, Bob Roll and Hummer dick.

This year is a great year to watch the Tour, it has no drug controversy, yet, a retired general returning for one last campaign, the morning, rising sun, nationalism, great stages and fantastic announcing.

This may become a very memorable Tour.

ideal finish for Astana. Same time as Cancellara, but Saxo Bank has to defend the yellow.

Lance probably wishes he did get the yellow, as one of the main reasons he is in the tour is for publicity (live strong), and he might not have the yellow at any point now.

But if Lance is to actually win (which is no sure thing), it was good for him to not get yellow today.

Why? I don't follow cycling or know much of anything about it.

Certain traditions place heavier pressure upon the individual holding the yellow jersey as well as its team. The holder of the yellow jersey and his team has certain work obligations not incumbent upon non-leading teams. Additionally, you become a marked man. So it's better to be the marked man, once the field is already tired, not before. I do not believe Lance will win, choosing instead Contador, but would love to see it happen.

Tomorrow is a big stage.

I'm in this strange situation of not really liking Lance much as a person, bagging on him on the internet, but ROOTING *for* him in the tours.

It's kind of like Lance Armstrong transcends Lance Armstrong.

He is a strange combination of myth and douche.

Tyler Hamilton, on the other hand is simply poo and douche.

I like him as a racer and acknowledge his tenacity and precision. At thirty seven with no races for four years, he should not win but I'd like a good showing. He's just lost the climbing legs he'll need.
