Default Role of Prophet from Historical Perspective

In regards to earlier discussions on the functions of latter-day prophets, I undertake an ambitious look at a prophet’s role throughout history, examining first-hand documents (Chino’s class notes).

Old Testament 2 (by David Rolph Seely, PhD Michigan, Dead Sea Scrolls editing team)
An OT prophet’s message is three-fold:
1. Repent
2. Future
3. Christ

Alexander the Great introduced Hellenistic culture, did not enforce it with sword. Most of the world sucked it up voluntarily. Jews had problems with 1) polytheism 2) philosophy, 3) gymnasium, 4) nude art 5) horse, chariot-racing.

Quote:
Paul: 22 For the Jews require a asign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we apreach Christ bcrucified, unto the Jews a cstumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them awhich are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the bpower of God, and the cwisdom of God.
Raymond Brown: Paul not a systematic theologian, hence apparent contradictions

Philosophy of Religion (by David Paulsen, PhD, Michigan)

Roger Olson, leading historian of Christianity: Theology invented after revelation was gone.

Conclusion
It appears that philosophy is more fun than it is necessary. To be fair, I also have this from Paulsen's class:
Quote:
Faith without reason is "simple faith." Mental laziness is a "vice," especially in relation to divine beings."
(I think attributed to BH Roberts)

Nice conclusions.

I see other cultural purposes as outlined in a paper prepared by AA.
