Default BSA has banned fat kids and leaders

from the more high-adventure-ish activities.

In my district, some of the more gung-ho scouters are huge.

I can sort of buy the need for some sort of policy, but 239 lbs max for a 6'2" person? That's pretty restrictive.

Venkman is finally discovering that "husky" means "fat."

Seriously, I bet more than half of Mormon men would exceed the guidlelines. Lots of "husky" elders out there.

The same requirements need to be part of the temple recommend interview.

"Do you obey the word of wisdom?" followed by "what is your height and weight?"

This only applies to high adventure, i.e. strenuous activity that is 30 minutes or more from medical help.

I'm trying to think of the last husky guy in my ward that went on one of these activities--it was many years ago. And he is now dead, of a heart attack, before his youngest son returned from his mission.

My bishop is morbidly obese, and I hate to say it, but if he died of a heart attack, nobody would be surprised.

Perhaps this rule will motivate some people to get healthy, and that will make their lives more productive and they will see their grandchildren grow up. Maybe.
