Default anyone know ESRI ArcMap software?

It's taken me forever just to learn how to import census data and map it. I feel like dancing a jig, now that I have something half functioning.

GIS may be a bit tough to learn on your own, but hopefully it will be useful in the long run.

I know enough about ESRI software to be dangerous. I have colleagues that are experts.

And as a matter of fact, I will be visiting ESRI headquarters next week for three days. Any questions you want me to pose to the developers?

I figured out the most pressing thing. I'm sure I will come up with questions in a bit.

Like here's one: why do I have to convert it to .dbf format to import? Is there a way to import SAS or Excel directly?

Because ArcMap like true databases. it sucks that you can't bring it in directly (really), and the excels save as dbf leaves a lot to be desired. I have used excel as a pseudo database in the past using ODBC.
some like this:

http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa...leShow&d=15380

after it is in arccatalog you should be able to get it into aarcmap.

What's worse is the Census data are full of glitches, at least for that stuff I find useful. That is why there is a good number of vendors selling pre-processed files. And, no, I'm not a good resource for ESRI help, we just try to import to the govt road, river, etc data into our own software for background maps.

I think I accomplished the mapping I need to do.

Now I need to figure out how to do statistical comparisons in Arc, if that is possible.

For statistical comparisons you will need to use the Geostatistical Analyst, an add on extension.
You may have it already, just check your extensions under the tools menu.

What type of stats are you trying to do?
