It is being reported on Cougarboard, that Shakerin has committed to Utah. That is a huge get for Utah! Kryle and company has done an amazing job this year with their class and in my opinion it is as good if not better than the Cougar class. Kryle has been able to go head to head with Bronco on several in state recruits and get them to commit over the Cougars. I must say, I have been pretty impressed. The partnership of Whittingham and Anderson is a pretty strong one.

How much of this is "Kyle is a recruiting genius" and how much is Shakerin realizing how much more competition for playing time he would have in Provo?

A disclaimer: I know little to nothing about this kid. I don't follow recruiting because there are too many kids who are labeled huge gets and never see the field.

I think it is a combo of the fact that Shakerin is a Ute fan, he doesn't like BYU, and I don't really think he wants to be prohibited from having sex with women during his time at college.

he hasn't signed yet. maybe he will have a spiritual experience between now and then.

According to Utezone, he has not officially committed, but plans to announce wherever he is going tomorrow at 6:00 PM.

Bummer. But it didn't sound like he ever was leaning to BYU.

Either way, it will be fun to see how he pans out in college.

The competition for playing time at BYU was never an issue. Shakirin was never going to BYU. It was only wishful thinking by the zoobs who thought he would ever consider going there.

Fair enough. Like I said, I know little to nothing about the kid.

I don't know anything about him, but if he chose Utah over BYU then he must have lost the spirit from patronizing restaurants that allow smoking and/or drinking.
