Default Mormon women substance abuse?

Anyone know what Elder Ballard was referring to when he mentioned in his talk to the mothers of the church that substance abuse won't let them get more done? Do we have rampant drug abuse by Mormon women?

Prescription drug abuse is increasingly common. I don't know the rates among Mormon women. But Statman's wife is a pharmacist, and saw some prescriptions among her ward members that raised her eyebrows.

Sister Trout was worried that he was talking about Diet Coke. I told her not to worry.

Our friend's MIL walked out of the room offended when someone said crap, but she'll bum some prescription painkillers off of her relatives without even flinching.

I am also guessing he's talking about prescription drug use: painkillers, antidepressants, anti-anxiety, sleeping pills. . .

To what extent these may be medically necessary and not "abused" in that same group (the "young mothers" to whom he was speaking) is probably subject to debate.

female population compared to society in general. Why? Because those outside the church drink more. Same issues, just different manners of addressing the issue.

Sad to say, some brethren exacerbate the issue. My wife having been Ward and Stake RS president, some of the stories are pretty depressing. What brethren expect of their wives to be trophy 'Mormon' wives.

Let's hope no one of this board is guilty of that.

I'm pushing her more toward the non-mormon horny professional. It's not working.

I wouldn't consider a high number of women on antidepressants a "substance abuse" problem.

Meth-moms are a big problem in Utah, there is so much pressure to be the perfect little house-keeper and mommy that many women are turning to mommy's little helper.
