this article is terrible, and it is obvious this guy does not understand science.

He sets up a straw man, knocks it down, and then brings forth his own straw man, with no evidence.

I'm not an expert in this area of course, but I have understood that many of the environmental effects are thought to be in the womb. Effects in the womb hardly seem like a "choice".

No credible person would ever assert that there is one gene that controls orientation.

The idea that there is a spectrum of orientation is hardly ground-breaking. Bisexuals, bi-curious, etc.

I think the only "choice" that is involved is whether and to what extent one acts on the impulse. I think there is also a range of how intensely the impulse is experienced. Obviously a relatively small number of people experience the impulses, and of those not all act on them, but many do eventually.

In those ways it is remarkably similar to pedophilia. I wonder what the parallels are scientifically.

P.S. Now having read the article, he specifically said that he was not indicating it was a choice. I think the jist is that it is not an immutable characteristic and many people change. As you say, that is not a radical notion.
