I am proud of my BYU gear. For example, if you wear stuff with just the Y logo on it, people will often see it from afar and think you went to Yale.

I'm a little ashamed to wear my Ute stuff, I confess. Not because of what I know the Utes to be really, but because I'm afraid people will think I'm like a BYU fan. I'm afraid they think we're all the same.

I think I'd also consider myself an 8. I don't miss games and try and schedule around them. Occasionally I'll have to miss a game or two. Like the time the basketball team came to Anaheim for the NCAAs and the first counselor had SUITE seats in the Honda Center, and I had already committed to singing in Savior of the World, and my hometeachee and his non-member girlfriend were planning on attending that one show. When He tests your allegiance it sucks.
Back in college, I probably was a 9.5. I mean, I spent 4 hours at a time cutting highlight videos when there was a midterm the next morning. I also remember sitting in the snow watching Boise State and/or CSU kick our butts all over the field. Those Crowton seasons were pretty painful. I think I stuck through all the football team's ineptitude because it was the only way to prove I wasn't fairweather. Now that I'm out of college with disposable income, I'm able to make it to 1 or 2 games a year. I attended UCLA and UCLA the Rematch last year and am thinking about attending UCLA the GRUDGE MATCH and whatever bowl game comes along. With access to the MTN again, it's possible that I'll do a few videos this year (still need to build the media center PC). My drive has slipped though. I hate how long it takes to put a 4 minute clip together, and I value my Saturdays more than when I was college. Maybe I should just be a music consultant. |

Hating TOHS is what makes me a real American. You bastards spit in Dave Murphy's mouth in the late 60's and I had to watch a grown man cry explaining it knowing that it wasn't gonna do us a bit of good when they unleashed Elder Foster on the belly run the following evening.

i'm probably at a 9.7
Season ticket holder/Cougar Club member. BYU license plates on my cougar blue car... no stickers though. double digit BYU hats. double digit BYU shirts. DVR all games. attend all home games and try to make it to 2 or 3 road games a year. sing the cougar fight song to my little girl when she's crying. if i had millions, i'd fill in the corners of LES and put blue seats in the marriott center. don't rewatch all games, but enjoy watching the highlights. proudly wear BYU gear around town, maybe once a week or so.. i've got the light up Y to put up in the window of the house... haven't done it yet though. tailgate at most home games. have several BYU flags, for tailgating, not for the house. Y car flags are up for most of the football season. my wife is a fair weather ute so she keeps me from being a 10.

That alone is enough to cast you into the fiery pit. You are also going to root against BYU in a football game. Sorry, but you are The Phantom Menace. Please make this your avatar:

I have a Utah hat that I purchased with my own money. It was a shameful moment of my life, one that I don't wish to rehash. But I keep it as a reminder of how low I can really go. Similar to Jean Valjean keeping the five-franc piece from Petit Gervais.

Further, I had no idea there was a rivalry and given my exposure to Army-Navy it was natural to assume if I realized there was a rivalry it was reasonable and mutually respecting. Indeed, I will root hard for Army to BEAT THE HELL OUT OF BYU! I expect however that it will not happen that way. Finally, I have forgotten more about BYU sports than you will ever know. On knowledge alone I qualify far beyond you. I had t-shirts with the names Young and Boscoe written on the back before you had even heard of Joseph Smith, so step-off Lancer Fag!

I guess I am fairly devoted,
1. Watch all the games (2007 did a slingbox setup and the year before I did computer pay per view when not on versus or CSTV). I arrange my schedule around the games. Usually a small group of fans come to my house to watch (these days we even have a former player in the group). 2. Lately I make about one game a year in person. If I get invited to present a paper at BYU I try to make sure it gets scheduled around a game. 3. I usually know all the starters but maybe not the whole two deep 4. I wear a BYU shirt to work about every other week. 5. I have been known to rewatch. 6. Follow basketball but don't arrange my schedule or do slingbox for the games. Minus ------- I have turned down two different faculty positions from BYU in the last five years. Last edited by pelagius; 07-24-2008 at 04:44 AM. |
