Good game Cougs
Very nice game today against USU. This is the level of play I've been expecting all year and have only seen sporadically in a minority of the games.
Plaisted played confident and smart--well at least smarter--baby steps. His move to his left is so devestating. Keena was also huge. Jimmy showed up and gave some wing scoring punch. Lee had a good game but didn't shoot well. Cummard's not ready to be a consistent scoring threat from the wing, so we need it from Jimmy or off the bench. Point guard play was adequate and great at times especially with scoring from Ainge. Bench play was solid with Rose and Malaman. This team is not deep enough to go further than 8 deep. Ainge and Broadus at point. Balderson, Cummard, Rose at the wings. Keena, Trent, Nando at the 4-5. Utah State fans showed up in mass and were loud, actually were louder than Y fans for a large part of the game. But it was fun doing the scoreboard chant towards the end of the game when they were doing a BYU sucks chant. |

How was BYU's defense in this game? What did USU shoot for the game from the field and what was the rebounding margin?
If Plaisted can improve/add a move to his right, he will be a terrific player.

I haven't look at the stats. BYU played excellent defense, combined with USU not shooting well. Plaisted doesn't have a good move to his right yet, but right now when he's on, his move to the left is about all he needs. He could reach a new level if he could add a move to his right. |

The defense was very good. Cummard did a great job on J.C. Carroll (sp?). USU got zero three pointers. First time in four years or something like that.

This game went to show that so goes BYU's guard play....so go the Cougs.
The combined efforts of Balderson/Cummard/Ainge/Broadus was needed. This looked more like the team from last year. They've still got a ways to go, but it was nice to see that they're beginning to right things. A nice homestretch before MWC play will only help their confidence and chemistry.
