I have much more respect for Marion Jones than I do for Bonds or Clemens.

Those guys deny the obvious.

At least Jones ovaried up and admitted she was a cheater. I think she gets out of jail in a few weeks.

I wouldn't want the gold if I were the US team. You're telling me I get a gold medal now because some 11 year olds kicked my ass? Yeah, that'd make me feel like a champion.

I am guessing it is an issue of exploitation.

Agreed. What integrity she had squandered by cheating was regained by admitting she had done it and accepting the consequences.

That's a good point. Still, winning is winning. I bet Washington would gladly take the '84 MNC should it become available.

the only thing about that: we could have sent our tweens, as well, but we didnt.

if the Chinese want to claim that their 11 year olds are better factory workers or heavy machinery operators, then fine.

But we need to compare apples to apples when it comes to underage gymnasts.

I need to know the reason for the rule. I'm assuming it's to protect young children from overzealous coaches. If it's generally accepted that being a tween is actual beneficial to Olympic performance then perhaps I could change my mind. I can't imagine any sport where that would be true though.

Not if they'd lost to us head to head but then later found out that we had some Junior High aged ringers on the team during the game.

She only owned up when she was staring at jail. She published a book in which she denied any wrongdoing. Her friends and family backed her for years. I'll be they feel pretty betrayed.

BTW, my wife raced against Jones in a high school track meet. I'm going to see about getting that victory stripped from Jones as well.

PS - love the use of "ovaried up." You should TM that.

She is still a cheater, yes.

But of the 3, she is the most honest cheater.

Bonds and Clemens continue to lie.

it is better to admit it under penalty of punishment than to not admit it at all (assuming that the admission is truthful)
