Default Scouting...

I've lowered my ambitions.

Uniforms. Given up.

Advancement. Given up.

Basically, now if anyone shows up, and it in anyway resembles fun (for me), that's a victory.

LOL. Ah, the inevitable cycle of YM callings in the church....

Obviously, you have to pick your battles. To me, I enjoyed forging close relationships with the boys and feeling like (to a small degree at least) I was having a positive affect in their lives. Scouting provided a structure for that process, but the details of the structure did not seem all that important.

Hang in there, buddy.

I hope you're joking.

My sons enjoy scouting immensely, solely on the basis of good leaders. They have implemented a plan where, and I could be off on the numbers, but our troop, has successfully advanced about 60 eagles by virtue of regimentation. Now there are times when our troop merges with another if participation is too low, but please continue the good work. It's worth it and the parents appreciate it.

No I am not joking.

I am back from the campout. The campout consisted of me packing, driving to the church, waiting with the YM President. After 45 minutes, we came to the conclusion no boys were coming, so we left.

Now that's success! These kids had 2 campouts in a year before me. Now the thought of a campout makes them run to their playstations and x-boxes.

If I can just get them to quit coming on weeknights, victory will be complete.

That sucks Mike. I love camping. Did you and the YM Prez discuss saying the hell with it and going wherever you two wanted?

Warning: Farrah had garlic and peppers for dinner.

I missed this when it came up.

Whatever happened to scout nazi guy? Perhaps we should bring back some of those threads from CB to remind you of the fire you once possessed for all things scouting, including a strict uniform policy.

Maybe its just that you haven't had them practice the scout law and oath enough during wednesday meetings. Give that a try and see if it lights a fire under them.

I've got one who hates scouts that the others follow. I'm trying my hardest just to get him there.

I scored a victory with my 13-year old neighbor (no dad at home) and he's going to come every week.

I've given up on scout shirts outside of court of honors and board of reviews.

I won't bring up their long hair any more.

We want to have "fun" activities while still following the scouting program (which means I need to relax and let them act like teanagers until it's too noisy).

I might of made a breakthrough last week, but we'll see tonight.
