Default Why are so many runners anti-Nike?

I was talking to another runner this weekend about shoes, and he gave me the usual anti-Nike schpeel that runners like to give. I've never understood why there's such a stigma on Nike shoes. This guy told me no "serious" runner would wear Nikes. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I run marathons about 25 minutes faster than he does (in my Nikes).

I tried some Mizuno's a couple of weeks ago, and after 5 or 6 runs in them, both of my feet had black toenails and a couple of nice blisters. So I'm back to Nike for good. I've run in Brooks, Saucony, Asics, New Balance, Adidas and Mizuno, and none of them were as comfortable or lasted as long as the Nikes I've had.
Maybe I just have weird feet.

Phil Knight is an asshole.

Nike uses slave labor.

and for a long time, Nike abandoned the running world for the basketball world.

I'm surprised Nike is making a come back.

I've jogged off and on for years.

Back in the seventies, Addidas was the popular shoe.

Along came Nike and they were popular for a while.

Then came a boatload.

I swear by Asics. Prior to Asics I tried Nike experiencing nothing but foot pain and blisters.

I bought some very expensive Addidas and disliked them immensely. The only other shoes I've toyed with are Brooks and New Balance.

Montrails are best for offroad running.

My guess is the lack of devotion is the centerpiece of runners' disgust for Nike. They abandoned their devotion to running, that runners simply don't trust them any more.

Kayanos rock.

I am not a big Nike fan. But, I think they have some very good shoes for runners. I just don't like Nike for their management practices.

I have always been and will always be a big fan of, in order:
*Adidas
*New Balance
*Brooks.
Maybe its because those are the only shoes that I have ever had are from those three companies.

I could have sworn a couple of months back you said you wear LA Gear.

I only wear Nike. I've tried the other brands in hopes of finding out what the "real" runners know, but I can't wear anything outside of the Nike Air Max line.

You've never loved running until you've run with Kayanos of Asics. They are great right out of the box.

You were complaining about your run time. It might be the shoes.

Don't get me wrong, the LA Gear is about as cool as it gets as it tells the world, 'I don't care how crummy the shoe is I am wearing' but I have moved on.

Arch...I have tried Asics and have nothing against them and I have heard terrific things about them as well. The best shoe that I have ever ran in was the Brooks Trance 6 shoe. That shoe is absolutely beautiful to run in.

I would only buy Kayanos or Kinseis.

My friend is giving me a new Brooks shoe that's coming out, so I'll try anything that's free.

2110 sound too cheap of a shoe.

I've never blistered with Kayanos.

Overpronators would not do well with them, as they are relatively neutral.

I have tried nearly every running shoe company and I have liked them all pretty well. I usually pick out the shoes I like the best and buy which ever one fits the best and feels the best. My favorites would be asics, nike, and adidas. (Right now I have Saucony though.) I like nike spikes the most by far though that's pretty much all I ever get. I personally think it's all how they fit not really by brand because all shoes are different.
