Default Let this be the Cougars Tourney motto

Μολὼν λαβέ

Leonides in response to Xerxes demand, "Spartans lay down your arms,"

Leonides is said to have made that statement, transliterated as Molon Labe, a paratactic, lacking conjunction. Having come, take is what it could mean. Basically, "Over my dead body."

If Trent, Tav and Cummard could exhibit that motto, we could win a game or two.

Sure, that would work if the BYU is playing Michigan State. What if the opponent is St. Mary's?

Gaels lay down your arms" just doesn't sound as good.

I like the translation most people use: Come and get them. One of the all-time great one liners in a series of fantastic laconic one liners.

Yes but isn't molon a first aorist, meaning "having come"? You and Solon are the Greek masters, I am but a humble student.

Doesn't it kinda mean, "you can only get them after you succeed in coming here."

Whereas the English is more ambiguous. Wouldn't an appropriate colloquial be "Over my dead body"?

I'm guessing Arch and AA got beat up a lot when they were kids. And I'm also guessing that Il Pad was one of the guys beating them up.

I hope their motto doesn't require an explanation that delves into Greek history...

A participle followed by a command is just as good as a dual command.

What happened to the motto of "Sweet Sixteen?"

As in, it's been sixteen years since BYU last tasted the sweetness of postseason victory.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'll save the rest of my smack for UFN.

There is a sweet innocence to your posts that I find endearing.

Often kids were afraid of me, I don't know why.
