Murder Among the Mormons
Jared Hess and othe other director - both grew up Mormon. I have no idea of their current affiliation.
The thing that really stuck with me after watching the documentary was just how evil Hofmann was. Sociopath who dedicated his life to deception, fraud, and power. And then finally murder. It feels like an example of the literal face of evil. They said he spent a lot of his money eating out and drinking. I suspect it was a lot more than that, those east coast trips. There’s a part where Shannon Flynn’s eye starts blinking, like a tic. It’s almost like an exaggerated purposeful tell. The directors I’m sure enjoyed including that. This story was a good afterward: https://www.deseret.com/utah/2021/3/...t-mark-hofmann A review from a non-Mormon: https://thebulwark.com/fraud-fortune...DuQvulpAordDYA |

I spoke to “friend” about the documentary. It turns out he owns some documents and such from Hofmann. Interesting to get his thoughts, he said the documentary was well done. He mentions that Hugh W. Pinnock, whose picture can be seen in the documentary, was a likely a central figure that was not discussed in the documentary, when it comes to Hofmann’s contact with the church. Pinnock met with Hofmann on the day of the bombings.
https://www.nytimes.com/1985/10/22/u...d-on-loan.html Why didn’t Hofmann participate in the documentary? Wouldn’t it have appealed to his ego? Friend says that Hoffman has never granted interviews with anyone after speaking to the parole board. He speculates that Hofmann came to the conclusion that his statement to the parole board was harmful to his desires (to be released), hence he has had no interest in doing anything that could be harmful to his getting out in the future. |

According to this Slate interview, Hess is practicing Mormon and Meason is a former Mormon.

Meason tried writing Hofmann, what sounds like several letters, but got no response.
