Default Question about Bishops/EQP's/HP Group Leaders

What authority do bishops have over EQP's and High Priest group leaders? Both EQP's and HP group leaders are called by the stake, but function in the ward. So what are the jurisdictional constraints of the bishop over them?

The ward's keys are held by the Bishop but the stake's keys are held by the STake President.

The EQPs and HP Ls report officially to the Stake President but do not overstep the administrative control of the bishop's jurisdiction.

This is because the bishop is the presiding High Priest.

Personally, I've always thought the HPGL and EQP were toothless callings. In effect, they can't even make in-quorum (or in-group) callings without approval of the bishop. Although the classic problem of "responsibility without authority" isn't as bad for the EQP (because he holds priesthood keys), the HPGL is about as powerful in a ward as the Sunday School president.

Yeah, I'm pretty much done praying about recommendations for callings in our organization. It's not very satisfying to feel like your prayer was answered and then for the Bishopric to call the other person, or someone else.

Bishop can pray about it.

I think we should sponsor a seminar where all Cougarguarders can come and learn about what the priesthood is, and how it operates. It's apparently badly overdue.

WE can have two: one where the mullahs feed us pablum and one where we speak to how it really operates.

I would love to teach you how it really operates.

So you assume you know more than PAC, BYU71 or several other former bishops? That's nice to know.

1. YM President says let's consider names for this calling for a recommendation.
2. Discussion ensues.
3. Decision made.
4. Prayer made about decision.
5. Prayer felt answered.
6. Recommendation made.
7. Recommendation rejected.
8. Repeat process numerous times.

Bishop is going to make up his own mind, with his own prayer. I don't think my prayers have been useful. Btw, the YM President was in stake presidency for 10 years. Tex, you can take up his ignorance about the priesthood with him.
