Default I have reached the 5000 mile mark

THis past wk I hit the 5000 mile mark on my bike, which I purchased August or so in 2002.

Not many people put 5000 miles on a Sora drive train, but I have.

I realize many of you have done 5000 miles in one season (or two seasons for the slackers). I am not ashamed. THe shame will be yours when you are sucking my wheel!

I just went over 2000 miles on the bike I bought late last summer.
Most of it was since March of this year.

My computer died a couple of months ago and lost all of the previous data.

I've done about 1,000 miles since about May 10th.

One of my buddies is in major weight loss mode right now. He is about 60 pounds overweight still, even after losing 40 pounds already in a year. He just finished his first full year back on the bike after about a 20 year layoff. He averaged 100 miles per week over that year, totalling 5,203 miles. If he lost even 30-40 pounds, he would be lethal. He already destroys most riders on the flat stuff.

1750 this year so far with 547 of them this month. I'm in desperation mode for next month.

When I ride my century end of August. Those 100 miles will probably represent 1/3 of my miles this season.

In a good season, it would represent a tenth of my miles.

Because of all the basketball, my heart is in pretty good shape. It's just my legs that need more power. I'm calling down to the engine room for "more power" as Paul Sherwen likes to say.

My average is only 200 per week, but to catch with Viking, I'll dial it up to 300 per week.

This year I've totalled, 3107.4, but still lack the power I'd and need to keep up with talented riders.

If ever rode 3000 in a year, I think I could be fearsome. Cat 4 even.

The problem is, one needs not just mileage, but quality miles. Due to inadequate nutrition, too many of my miles end up becoming junk miles.

300 per week, you're killing me. I thought 200 a week was a lot.

The other day as I was getting ready to go on another ride I thought to myself that for a guy in his forties, with a family, belonging to the LDS church I sure have a lot of extra time on my hands. No current church position, two teenage sons off doing their own thing and a wife that likes to go running in the evening is the only way 200 a week is possible for me.

Well this week will only be 200. 15 on Monday, 20 one Wednesday, 60 today, 120 tomorrow and 65 Sunday.

Next week we intend to dial it up.

20 Monday, 25 Wednesday, 70 Friday, 130 hard Saturday, and 75 Sunday.

I have a lot of time, but my time starts at 4:30.

I have no current calling, and no immediate trials.
