PBS is banning all new religious programs to comply more faithfully with 1985 bylaws that require programs to be "noncommercial, nonpartisan and nonsectarian."

Well, BYU doesn't get money from taxpayers. They pay for the PBS programming they air, so this statement doesn't mean much. PBS gets tax money to support their mission of securing public affairs and educational programming for public and non-commercial stations, which those stations then pay them for. If PBS doesn't want to sell their stuff to BYU any more, than that's their business. What this doesn't mean is that KBYU would have to stop broadcasting their own stuff. There is a lot of confusion about what a non-commercial TV station is. You don't have to show PBS stuff. Many don't. There are lots and lots of non-profit religious TV stations out there already, at least outside of Utah there are.

well, I don't really know that much about how the funding works or the programming choices. The headline on that one just caught my eye. I agree with you that KBYU will almost certainly continute with status quo, and if that means separating itself from the PBS family (talking about the future), so be it.
