Default The problem with rebounding last night

was NOT Plaisted. We did well in the first half.

The problem was that we went to a zone defense for a large part of the half. Zones are notorious for giving up easy offensive rebounds.

IMO, if we don't go to zone, we don't give up so many Offensive rebounds & 2nd chance points, and we win by 8.

If we did, I missed it.

Lots, in the first half.

It's hard to box out when you're not assigned to box out a specific person, such as when playing zone.

Default You can still box out in a zone.

You have to have a sense for where the players are and when a shot goes up, you move into position and bracket the player with your backside to know where he is.

Which is inherently more difficult than it is to box out when playing man defense. Hence, the tendency for ALL teams to give up more ORB when playing zone.

Therefore, my statement is absolutely correct - had we not gone to zone D, we would likely have prevented at LEAST a few of those rebounds and the resulting putbacks....which would have put us ahead going down the wire.

Based on the way A&M executed down the stretch, we may not have won anyway, but we certainly would have been better off.
