Default Tort Reform

Is tort reform needed in this country? Or are the abuses so rare and overblown that there is no point? I brought up the McDonald's coffee case in another thread(and got creamed for doing so, if you'll pardon the pun) and learned later that it was not what it seemed(or what was reported). Are the abuses widespread? Or are they rare and get overreported - like shark attacks, for example? Or is there widespread abuse and there needs to be some sort of cap on damages?

Attorneys seem to always lean towards leaving it all alone(I am talking about attorneys in general, not necessarily the ones on this board). I cannot honestly decide if this is because they know more about the subject matter or if they just have the most to gain from the current situation.

The things that I think of when I'm at work at 4:30 in the morning......

Default there is room for improvement

and the advertisers don't bring credit to the profession, but the improprieties are distorted, so a true picture is difficult to paint.

Take your profession and tell me what the public perceives of it, then tell what the true problems are, and you will see the "torts" in a different light.

I can see your point, although my occupation is a bad example. I am reasonably sure that most people don't even know that my occupation exists.

And my point is not really about attorneys in general, just torts specificaly and the abuse thereof.

I'm just one tiny step ahead of you realtall. People know that my occupation exists but most couldn't tell you what it is and what I do ... much less the problems.

Default What do the two of you do?

Do you have a job where you'd have to kill us if you told us? Now we're interested and need to know.

LOL, no its not quite that glamorous. I work for a company called Perot Systems doing mainframe cycle management and operations. Most of the time when I tell people that they just look at me funny. Than, after an uncomfortable moment of looking at each other I say, "I work on a big computer." That seems to help some.

Default you work on a big computer monitoring systems with

lots of downtime to play. Hmmm. Must be a great job, unless the systems you monitor are ever rendered obsolete.

Default RealTall and I work for the same company....

Just in different states and different accounts in the company.....

I am a Desktop Support Analyst. People always ask me what that means....

I tell them this....

"I spend 99% of my time at my desk keeping things running. If you see me in your department, you are pretty much done working for the day."

They understand that....

Monitoring is one aspect of it, releasing jobs and dealing with abends are others.

The downtime is an off & on thing. It depends. Also, I work 7pm-7am which is why you see me on mostly at night. And no, I wouldn't classify it as a great job.
