Default What a change one win makes

Of course, long-suffering Cougs don't know what that feels like since Shawn Bradley left the fold.

Archaea, if it would help with your stringpulling pains, the Mighty Cougs won their last tourney game two years after Bradley.

Not that the details are important.

Honestly my man, if you can't find some fun, joy or excitement in the current state of BYU sports you might not ever find it.

BOO YA!

I like football right now. And track isn't too bad. You're right about the Tourney win, as my memory of it is so fleeting, with that lonesome victory having been so long ago. Was that the victory against SMU, which was proceeded by the mighty thrashing of Virginia?

That was before most of my kids were even born. Wow.

I'm still curious why it makes that much difference if BYU gets within 3 points with a minute to go only to lose in the first round as opposed to say the 1992-1993 team which got to within 4 points with 4 minutes to go only to lose in the 2nd round. Apparently, beating SMU that year was so memorable that Arch can't even associate the win with the correct season.

Methinks that the bellyaching ratio would have been nearly identical then had sufficient technology existed to capture such sentiments.

Here's the difference. With a win, you can dream, "well geeze, with one more player and a bit more experience, we can go deep into the Tourney."

When your team is a proverbial beeatch for Tourney teams, you look to the Tourney with a sentiment of resignation.

Was it the Virginia beating team that got whooped by Louisville in the next game or the SMU team?

1990-1991: BYU beat Virginia in SLC (de facto home game), lost to Arizona in 2nd round

1991-1992: BYU lost to Shaq and LSU

1992-1993: BYU beat SMU in the first round, lost to Kansas in the 2nd round

Back then I would think, gee, "we're almost there. And we were until we fell off the map."

Weird. I thought to myself, "it's obvious we aren't remotely as good as these other teams, nor should we expect to be anytime soon." Guess I was right.

What is odd to me is that it takes more good football players to make a statement whereas it only takes one or two great basketball players, yet BYU has failed more in basketball than football.

Why can't we even enjoy a Princeton type success?

Princeton type success? What has Princeton's NCAA record been over the last 25 years?
