I don't have the time or energy to do this, but it would be interesting to list out the SOS for each year, and compare Lavell (last 4 years) to Crowton to Bronco.

Crowton's SOS wasn't particularly great. In 2001 when he won a lot of games there were only two decent to good teams on the schedule (Hawaii and Lousiville in the bowl game) and we lost soundly to both. The rest were all patsies. It was a very bad year for the WAC.

He had some tougher schedules between 2002 and 2004, but he also lost plenty of games to terrible teams like UNLV and Wyoming.

The context of this is that in the article, Crowton blames some of his woes on the difficult schedule that the AD put together.

The bolded years are the Crowton years. His breakthrough was the 2001 season that was an easier schedule than the last Edwards year.

And by far the 2003 and 2004 seasons were the toughest as to scheduling. Bronco has not approached that degree of difficulty.

We'll see where next year's schedule stacks up.

Sagarin schedule rankings by year

1998 - 88
1999 - 45
2000 - 51
2001 - 83
2002 - 86
2003 - 14
2004 - 11

2005 - 65
2006 - 74
2007 - 59
2008 - 74
2009 - 61
2010 - 55
2011 - 90
2012 - 63
2013 - 38
2014 - 69
