My prediction is that BYU will get a 9 or a 10 seed, many people will crow about how they should be a 5 or 6, yet BYU will fail to prove that argument by losing to their 7 or 8 seeded opponent.

I'm still bullish on this team and am predicting an end to the NCAA Tourney Winning Drought this year.
Their defense has been very good this year and is the difference.

BYU does not presently deserve a 5 seed. I would think BYU was screwed if they get a 9 or 10 seed if BYU gets to the championship game of the MWC and is competitive in the game. If BYU gets a 6 or 7 seed, I think they win the first round game.

Regardless of seeding BYU wins their 1st game.

Winning 16 out of 17 games would be sufficient grounds for deserving a 5 seed.

I believe BYU does deserve a 5 seed. It partly depends on what happens in conference tourneys, but their resume is pretty damned good.

Well if they do get a 5, would it be fair for the homers to whine that it should have been a 4 or a 6, because there are always so many 5/12 upsets and thus the selection committee intentionally set them up against the toughest double-digit seed in the tournament?
I'd like to see an actuary prepare an article supporting the theory. I bet Dick Harmon would publish it. |
