Default Voters unimpressed with Obama "torture" theme

Via Powerline:

Quote:
* 58 percent of voters say the Obama administration's recent release of DOJ memos "endangers the national security of the United States." Fewer than half as many 28 percent, think it "helps America's image abroad." (This suggests that Obama's apology tour hasn't been especially well-received, either.)

* 70 percent also say America's legal system either does a good job of weighing security against individual rights, or puts too much emphasis on individual rights at the expense of security. Only 21 percent say the legal system is "too concerned about protecting national security."

* Only 28 percent want the Obama administration to investigate how the Bush administration treated terrorists. 58 percent want no such investigations.

* Obama's decision to close Guantanamo Bay is now disapproved of by a 46-36 margin, with support for Obama's action declining.
That last one was the most surprising to me. To listen to folks around here, you'd think only wacko right-wing freaks like me support Gitmo.

I'm unimpressed with "conservatives" who support govt. power in violation of our laws and constitution.

I may be hard-pressed to vote for any more GOP candidates.

What's your point, exactly? That people don't agree where to draw the linese here? Or just that you're not the only one who's cool with a little torture here and there? Better to detain people indefinitely with little or not due process rights "just in case."

I think we already knew that. This poll illustrates the margins, which are skewed pretty favorably in the direction of traditional conservatives.

I disagree with your premise.

Setting aside whatever your point may be here (even you don't seem to know- when challenged as to what your point is, you reply merely with "I disagree with your premise"), exactly how is the nation less safe as a result of releasing the torture memos (I will assume, since this is your party's line, that you agree with the sentiment that the nation is less safe).

Because now, the torture that we have promised not to do, will be ineffective.

????

It seems to me that Cheney et al. are advocating a return to torture.

Just why are we listening to a guy who went to war without a plan, and shot his friend while hunting?

The guy has "DUMBASS" tattooed on his forehead, and redneck America still thinks he is God.

The point was pretty self-explanatory, I thought. Most Americans disagree with Obama on the issues polled.

As with RHG, I reject the premise that the memos condoned torture, especially when that word is so ill-defined. Your and her casual use of that term makes meaningful discussion pointless.
