Default Trainers

What do you guys like to use... I'm getting fatter by the day and need to get back on the bike, but I'm finding that by the time I get home from work or school it's too dark and it's too freaking cold in the morning. So I'm going to buy a trainer. What do you guys use and/or reccommend?!

I personally use a fluid resistance trainer by Performance. It does an okay job, but doesn't really give quite enough resistance to get a good workout.

Steelblue bought the same model, but with the resistance unit included, and he gets probably three times as much resistance as I do.

Magnetic resistance is also a good option, with the only drawback being they are a little noisier if you plan to ride it inside the house.

The only other real option would be to go with rollers. Some of the old school guys (eh hem, creekster) prefer these to trainers, but you don't get as much resistance and end up falling on your face more often.

Rollers don't give resistance but man you can develop a beautfiul pedal stroke.

I just go down to the gym and use the spinning bikes during the winter. I take my IPod and something to read but it's still torture. I try to break this up with time on some rotating stairs that kick my butt. I've got an old Tunturi bike at home that I've turned the odometer over on but it doesn't get much use anymore.

I've never tried rollers but I would like to try my buddies this winter and see how they feel.

Das Truth, creek.

I would really like to try them sometime. I've got a buddy who is looking to get rid of his. He is a very fit rider, but is one of the worst bike handlers and has the least smooth pedal stroke I have possibly ever seen. Both are things that would be greatly benefited from rollers. But if he wants to give them to me for half price, who am I to stop him?
