Interesting find from Israel
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/wo...t/06stone.html
A stone with ink writing that dates from around the time of Jesus (give or take a hundred years). It might or might not (text is still being critically examined) mention a messiah and resurrection. I'll be interested to read these publications when they become more widely available in English.

From what I read, there is not chain of custody, so I am deeply skeptical as to its authencity.
It was mentioned in fast and testimony meeting today. |

Yeah. It's a looted . . err . . privately owned piece. I'm sure that time and scholarship will reveal if it's been forged, or if its text has even been read correctly.

If they determine it contains any explicit reference to Jesus' deeds or events as recorded in the NT I guarantee it's a forgery. I guarantee it. 100%.

I finally scanned the linked article. Apparently if the stone is legitimate it would only cast doubt on the Christ story, since it would show that a resurrection of the Messiah (after three days) story had been part of the Jewish tradition for decades before Christ was born. As we've seen here, the Pentateuch itself provides a matrix for the NT.

SU knew Jesus was a fraud after he read Isaiah....
The stretching by some Jews in these reports tells me that yes, Judaism is a dying religion. |
