I am convinced we let them score
I don't know if the coaches went ahead and told the players to pretend to chase the wide receivers, I doubt it. On the other hand, I am suspicious that either Bronco or Hill called exactly the wrong play on purpose.
Something like: Hill: Ok, Baumann, I want you to man up and cover Morton. Baumann: Um, Coach, he's their fastest receiver. Fowler, I might need some over the top help. Hill: No, Fowler's going to sit in a corner and play Uno. Just cover Morton, trust me. |

It reminded me of the Miracle Bowl when, rather than let SMU grind out the clock, BYU continued its Sieve Defense and let the Ponies score quickly so McMahon could work his magic.

I prayed, "Lord, if they are going to score, let them score early."

I felt disappointed when they called back the interception return.
