Did you miss the memo where the entire body of the church in the 1800s agreed to make the Word of Wisdom binding; thereby making it a commandment?

It was the fall 1851 General Conference. I don't recollect if it appeared in the Church HOI prior to 1851.

Are you going to bust out the Book of Revelation on me now and start talking about 'let no man add to or take away from...'?

I guess we need a review of the Rigdon/Young story.

Once upon a time there were two conflicting views of how scripture should influence church doctrine. Sidney Rigdon (I think it was Sidney) stood up and gave a speech about the scriptures being God's word, and we ought to confine ourselves to the teachings there in. Brigham Young stood up following and declared that the scriptures do not declare the word of God to us in our day as do the words of a prophet. Joseph stood and said, "Brigham has taught you the truth."

Indy, if you have a clue about the history of the WoW, you are not evidencing it here.

As long as a living prophet with the proper keys of the priesthood is driving the trunk, that doesn't bother me.

that's interesting and all this time i thought we'd be judged by what was written in the scriptures. i guess in realty we will be judged on some obscure binding agreement (that i may add was not enforced) in 1851

that's enlightening

if the church wants the wow to be contrary to dc89 then where is the revelation????

The church receives revelation every single day from the top on down. Not all of them are canonized with chapter and verse, Sidney.

Tex, I receive revelations from time to time. Should I start writing chapter and verse?
