Fitness and Self Esteem
How many here correlate the two?
Is low self esteem (regarding apperance) a motivator for losing weight and exercising? Do you feel better about yourself when you are slimmer and in better shape? Do you think other people view you differently when you slim down? How much confidence do you gain through diet and exercise?

My confidence goes down the bigger my manboobs become.
I love the ad on television of the woman that is jogging and everyone she passes is just staring at her and admiring her...she runs by John Stamos, Tyrese and a bunch of other people and they are just staring at her. They show her and she is an average looking mid 40s person--the implication is that when you are working out, you see yourself in a much better light. I agree...I believe that I am a wonder when I am fit. Not a Patrick Swayze wonder, but not bad. |

Nothing worse than when your pants stop fitting.
Definitely feels better when you have to use the belt loop you haven't used before (waist getting smaller). |

No question. That's a huge factor.

I certainly correlate the two. By the end of this past semester I felt like a fat lard. Since then I've lost 6 lbs, have 15 more to go, and am already feeling better.

I have a friend who just started this on Monday. I believe that self esteem is highly connected with physical fitness or rather how one feels physically about themselves.

I correlate exercise and self esteem but in a different way. It's about getting stronger or doing something better or faster than before. For me that's where the self esteem and confidence boost comes in. There's also the endorphine kick that's going to physiologically make you feel good.

For me it's not a question of self esteem, but rather emotional stability. I feel saggy and weighted down on days, rare, when I don't do something. Today I had a lousy workout and feel dumpy.

My best workout of the week is consistently Monday. I'm still trying to figure out why.

It's also a nice self esteem boost when you start using the original holes in the belt.
