Well wasn't America promised a land of inheritance for Lehi coming out of Jerusalem?

Sure. But what does that have to do with the Jews as a whole? Lehi was a Jew of the House of Israel, but aren't there several parts in the BoM (especially Jacob 5) that indicate that America is for Lehi's seed (and eventually the Gentiles)?

That's what leads me to take the other scriptures refering to the Jews' land of inheritance at face value to mean their promised land (Jerusalem and the surrounding area).

What's done is done, but the scriptures could have been spun to meet those decisions had they been wisely made.

I would never make a political decision based on some vague promise of canon. To me, that is folly. Make a decision based on good policy.

And now the Turks have to suffer because of that unfortunate decision.

And then "spin" the scriptures to convince yourself you made the right decision? Weird. It's obvious the Middle East is a mess, but I'm having a hard time being convinced that it's not supposed to be this way.

What I quoted was from the BoM. Either Western powers referenced the BoM when deciding on the Jewish state, or Joseph Smith was one inspired dude.

that's what I hate about millenial thinking. The idea that when things are going to hell, they are going right.

Wake up. We're supposed to build a better world. We are supposed to be just.

I have a Jewish colleague who told me, "you know what I like about Mormons? Like Jews, they believe the world can be redeemed."

GBH has specifically counseled against this crap kind of millenial thinking.

I would point out one other thing: if I was a politician, and I whispered it as a complete hypothetical thought experiment, my career would be assassinated.
