I think PETA is already beginning to hurt their own cause in Vick's case. If they keep up their opposition in the manner that they are prone to oppose, people will suffer from PETA fatigue in a hurry.

I think you're stretching a bit.
Never heard of a speedtrap town?

Certain small towns get a significant percentage of their revenue by catching motorists passing through right where the speed drops to 35 mph from 55 or 65. The Carolinas are reputedly chock full of these "Fifedoms".

It is a quite a stretch to apply this to PETA, however.

That may be the first, and last, time I defend PETA on anything.

Well, I'm certainly not trying to stretch or troll on this one. In fact, it is an argument I've heard discussed on various media outlets.

I guess PETA and other such organizations really have no choice but to profit from animal abuse...otherwise they wouldn't be in business. Kind of an odd niche to carve out for yourself in the market place if you ask me, but hey, this is America, land of make a buck where you can...so good for them.

Sometimes I just wonder if the Vick protests and selling of anti-vick merchandise is doing more harm then good in this situation. Not that he shouldn't be called out for what he (allegedly) did, but I'm not sure what selling anti-vick apparel does for ones cause. But, to each their own.

As a 501(c)(3), PETA isn't exactly profiting from animal abuse, perceived or otherwise. They're merely getting more money to allow them to expand their operations.

Nevertheless, these high profile situations certainly don't hurt their cause and their "fund raising."
