I agree that hyping up the possibility of a national championship is only fun, and a lot of wishful thinking.

I'm happy that BYU is getting some national respect, and I'm also pleased that Utah and TCU are getting it too. It feels like an end to years and years of being belittled by other conferences.

Uh...reread. That's not really what he's saying. He's not comparing computers with the oddsmakers as much as saying he'd take the rankings of the oddsmakers and/or the computers much more seriously than human polls. I don't see that as problematic. Why should we trust "a couple of guys who are really good guessers"? Because we're all guessers, but they're the only ones whose livelihoods actually depend on their guesses.

I'm continually amazed at how close Vegas gets point spreads.
