How connected are you to church leadership?
I have no connections that I know of to any general authorities. I know several of you have mentioned your connections.
In fact, I can't think of a single family member who has been a bishop (my dad had 4 brothers). Maybe one of my dad's cousins has been a bishop, but I'm not aware of it. Yes, I am proudly unconnected. |

I have a couple of family members. When my dad was stake president in Saudi Arabia, we'd often have General Authorities come visit and stay at our home, so we came to know quite a few of them that way too. Elder Packer created the Arabian Peninsula Stake (don't bother, the church doesn't officially list it due to obvious political sensitivities) back around 1982.

My old man worked for the LDS church for over 30 years. As a result we've got name/face connections with a whole grundle of the "big" kids.
Also, Eyring is from my stake. His son and my sister were really good pals. |

We have had four GA's called from our ward in the past 10-12 years. Three of them fit the standard wealthy semi-retired businessman profile. The other guy was an academic and was quite renowned in his field of study. Brilliant man.

Not very. My grandpa knew a few. I was roomates briefly with a Seventy's son, my sister had a good friend who's dad became a Seventy. My wife's brother married into a connected SLC family. Sat next to Wirthlin at the reception - mistakenly addressed him as Elder Haight. Sat next to Bateman at a Cougar b-ball game last year - offered him a Red Vine. He accepted.
That's about it. Last edited by Venkman; 08-10-2007 at 04:57 PM. |

Marlin Jensen's son (or one of his sons) lived on the same floor of the same dorm at BYU. I knew him casually.

I once took out Elder Condie's daughter on a very casual group date. She graduated from high school at the age of 16 or something like that. Extremely intelligent. IIRC, she was one of the very first missionaries to serve in Russia.

I know two or three Apostles' grandchildren and some children of Seventies.

I once met a member of the seventy who attended our stake's conference. Does that count?
